Aaron Teaches
English for communication, English for testing, and English beyond TOEIC
Serving Japanese students of English
Welcome to Aaron Teaches
Our goal is to help you improve your English so you can communicate better, and do better on tests such as the STEP, TOEIC, and TOEFL.
However, our goal does not stop at improved communication or better test results. Once you have your perfect TOEIC score, what do you do? Are your spoken English and your listening as good as you would like? Can you effortlessly read English? How is your writing?
We believe language learning is the same as all other learning; language learning is a lifetime activity. Our goal is to help you continue making progress even after you have your perfect TOEIC score.
At Aaron Teaches, our focus includes how you can study.
To help students at all levels, our site tries to label language activities as much as we can. All of our audio listening is labeled at one of our four listening levels.
Many of our other language activities are labeled in accordance with the following levels, but many are not. We have also provided a range of levels for some activities:
Reading Step One, beginner: This is our beginning material. Step 1 is for you if you have studied English in junior high school, high school, and other schools, but you have not yet gone beyond the first step. This step would be for you if you have not yet passed the pre second level of the STEP.
Reading Step Two, high beginner: Step 2 is our high beginning material. Step 2 is for you if you have studied English both at school and independently. This step is for you if you have some communicative ability; if you have probably passed or could pass the pre second level of the STEP; if you are either thinking of taking the second level of the STEP; if you are at the level where you could be thinking about taking the second level of the STEP.
Reading Step Three, intermediate: Step 3 is our intermediate level. This step is for you if you have passed the second level of the STEP and want to progress further.
Reading Step Four, advanced: Step 4 is for you if you have passed the pre first level of the STEP or are at the level where you could be thinking about taking the test.
Reading Step Five, expert: Step 5 is for you if you have passed the first level of the STEP or if you are at the level where you could be thinking about taking the test.
Reading Step Six, beyond TOEIC: Step 6 is for you if you have dedicated yourself to English, and you have a perfect TOEIC score, or you would have one if you took the test.
Reading Step Seven, educated fluent native speaker: Step 7 is for you if you are searching for very high level writing done for educated native speakers. You won’t find much at our site at this level, but we do have some suggestions for where you might go.
Please understand that these levels are only approximations. Take a look at the Aaron Teaches language activities and decide for yourself. While we all like levels because they help us to evaluate ourselves and others, English learning goes beyond clear categories. We have used the levels of the STEP and the perfect TOEIC score because they are familiar to almost all English students in Japan. We could have used any of a number of different systems. Please click
here if you would like to see more detailed test numbers.
We believe what is truly important is your continued effort and your progress.
If you are eager to evaluate your level and you want others around you to recognize your level, taking a test may be important. A test may be useful for your school or work. However, taking a test does not improve your language skills. Continued effort does. Tests are also not the best approach for measuring your skill level. We suggest you try to compare what you could today with what you could do six months ago. Then, look at what you want to be able to do six months from now. Set goals for yourself, and in six months, your task will be to evaluate your progress. The question to ask yourself is if you have met your goals.
If you are truly beyond TOEIC, please see our beyond TOEIC section for help. Furthermore, please feel free to send us questions at any time if you would like suggestions. Please feel free to use our form at http://www.aaronteaches.com/form.html. We are here to help you as much as we can.
We try to have activities for everyone at our Aaron Teaches site: beginners, high beginners, intermediate, advanced, experts, and beyond TOEIC. We also have educated fluent native speaker level materials and suggestions for where to go for further reading.
We hope you can find the kinds of language activities that you are looking for at our Aaron Teaches site.
If you cannot find activities that you are looking for, please email us and we will try to either make them for you or tell you where they are. If you are uncertain about contacting us, please remember your idea might help both you and others trying to improve their language ability. If you have a specific language need, others probably have the same or a similar need.
Happy learning!
