The protagonist in the novel kept looking out of her window at the monkey puzzle tree. She did so whenever she was thoughtful or melancholy. I had never seen a monkey puzzle until I spotted this in Golden Gate Park. (A native English speaker would understand this through coherence. Coherence is a grammar term.) |
