Introduction for Beginning Students
I am an English teacher who lives in Canada. I have taught English for the past seven years in Canada, China, Indonesia, and Venezuela. I also am a nature tours guide for English students. Homestay students from Japan, Asia, Europe, and other places have stayed with me. I live near the coast. The coast here is beautiful. It is great for teaching. I teach on the beach, in the rainforest, and in other interesting places. I also teach in regular classroom settings. My students, however, prefer the outside classes that take us on wonderful adventures together.
I have traveled to over 60 countries. In my free time, I like to travel, make art, go cross country skiing, swim and snorkel, watch foreign films, do gourmet cooking, and help people.
I like to meet new students on line and in person. I hope we can meet someday.

Introduction for Advanced Students
I am an ESL teacher based in Gibsons, B.C. Canada. I have 7 years experience teaching English in many different situations including tutoring, teaching overseas in countries such as China, Indonesia, and Venezuela. I also offer ESL Eco tours and have sponsored groups from Thailand and other countries. I have been doing homestays and generally have one or two students on my premises that take classes either daily or a few times a week while also working in Canada if they have their working visitor's visa. The natural beauty of coastal B.C. Canada lends itself to innovative teaching methods where the classroom is sometimes a coastal beach, a wander in the rainforest, exploring the First Nations totem poles, or visiting an artist's studio. My goal is to engage my students both by giving formal classes and more dynamic classes that take student and teacher on wonderful adventures. I believe participation is the key to learning.
I tailor my lessons to the needs of my students' and favour interactive interesting ways that make language learning fun. Since I have a wide variety of life experience, including travel to over 60 countries, I appreciate different cultures and enjoy exchanging ideas. When teaching or using audio on line conversation, role play and humour is essential. I am also glad to focus on the student's goals, whether it be passing the TOEIC or IELTS exam, or simply a wish to communicate in English with ease. I plan lessons appropriate to the level of my student and encourage input so we are working as a team. I am glad to assist students learning English for business use, health care, or whatever occupation they need these language skills for.
I have experience as a writer for our local newspaper, and am currently working as an on line "writers coach". I feel my life experiences and flexibility are very useful as a language teacher. I also have ten years experience working as a Mental Health counselor and advocate, and continue to do this work "on call".
My personal interests include travel, fiber art, cross country skiing, snorkeling, foreign films, gourmet cooking, environmental issues, global politics, and humanitarian aid.
I have initiated and organized various trips to Third World countries where we delivered medicine and hospital equipment to countries in need.
I enjoy meeting new students on line and in person, and look forward to fulfilling the language needs of future students. I hope we can meet someday.
