Aaron Teaches が英語学習者の方々へお届けする、英語学習のためのA to Zです。英語学習は決して楽なものではありません。でも、少しでも楽しく進めていただけるよう Aaron Teaches は英語学習者の方々をさまざまな面から応援したいと考えています。そんな思いがこの A to Z にはこめられています。

A is for Aaron. Come here to improve your English. We cover listening, speaking, reading, and writing - the four skills.

B is for balance. Remember to have balance when you study. A language has four skills. It is important to study all of them. Just as a dog needs four legs, people need all four skills to use a language. Remember to keep a balance between the four skills as you learn.

C is for communication. Languages are for communication. We listen, speak, read, and write to communicate. Without communication, there is no need for language. Reading and writing are communication too, the writer communicating to the reader.

D is for differences. We are all humans, but we are all different. Those of us in different cultures act and think differently. Those of us in the same culture do not necessarily act and think the same. Celebrate the differences.

E is for energy. Learning a new language requires much energy. Eat right, get enough sleep, and exercise. Be fit like an athlete to have the energy to study.

F is for freedom. Learning a new language gives you the freedom to communicate with other people and travel.

G is for greatness. Everyone can be great at something. If you work hard and long enough, maybe you can be great at English.

H is for help. We all need help to improve our language skills. Figure out what helps you the most and that is where you should go.

I is for information. We need information to speak better, to learn better, and to know how to act in different cultures. A new language is more than new words, it is new behaviors. Information can help us.

J is for jarring. There will be jarring moments in your language learning, experiences, and travels. Learn to move so you are not jarred as much.

K is for knock-down. You may get knocked down occasionally. Just get up again and keep going!

L is not for linguistics. If you love linguistics, that is great. If you want to study linguistics, go ahead. Just remember that L is not for linguistics. L is for language, and no explanation should be required for that!

M is for more. Listen more, speak more, and read more. More, more, more! This is the way to progress.

N is for nuance. Words produce sentences, but you can understand all the words and not understand the sentence. You may know every word in an English language dictionary. However, you may be missing a nuance. You need to study metaphors and idioms to understand nuance.

O is for open. Be open to new ideas and new ways. A language is more than words. It is an opening to a new way of life.

P is for power. Language is power. Speak a new language and think of all the things you can do - travels and jobs included.

Q is for questions. Questions are great. If you don't know- ask! Others may have the same questions.

R is for remember. There are many things to remember. This doesn't mean we should memorize. It means we should use them again and again until we remember.

S is for silly. You may think you look silly at times. You may look silly. So what? The world could use a little more silliness. You may not look silly. Thinking you do may be your interpretation. Others may think you brave or smart.

T is for transformational grammar. This is accurate grammar, grammar that describes. It is too difficult for us to learn our grammar this way. Language is too difficult, our brains too limited, and our lives too short. Don't worry about it. Learn through language activity practice.

U is for unknown. New languages are full of unknowns. Actually, so are our native languages. Just take it in stride!

V is for variety. Variety is what makes our world such a wonderful place. Enjoy the variety in languages, customs, and more. To avoid variety is to put yourself in a cell and sample only what you know.

W is for wise work way. Learning a language is hard work. Make sure you have mastered the wise work way to language. Don't be confused by the posters for English conversation schools with beautiful people who look like they are saying, "Come have fun with me." Language learning is hard work, but it is worth it!

X is for Xenophon. Remember Xenophon and the march of the 10,000? Greek history is where much of the Western world finds its roots. In a difficult situation, Xenophon never gave up, and he managed to return home safely. You can do it too!

Y is for yes. Say yes to new words and new experiences. Say yes to a new way of life and try new things.

Z is for zoo. Learning a new language can make you feel like you are in a zoo, hearing strange sounds. If you are patient, the sounds will become familiar to you. Just keep practicing and working at it!
